To send an SOS signal with your phone, call your local emergency number if you can; if you need to signal visually, flash SOS in morse code (three short, three long, three short) with your screen or torch. CEMP Life puts both one tap away: SOS Strobe flashes your screen in the international SOS pattern, and Emergency Numbers lists and dials the official emergency number for any country, searchable by name. Crash Safety can alert a contact automatically after a fall or crash.
Your phone's emergency kit
- Call: the local emergency number, found instantly with Emergency Numbers
- Signal: SOS Strobe flashes ... --- ... on your screen
- Alert automatically: Crash Safety texts your GPS location to a contact and calls them
- Works offline: SOS Strobe needs no signal
What is the SOS signal in morse code?
SOS is three short signals, three long signals, three short signals: ... --- ... It is sent as one continuous sequence, then repeated. It is recognised internationally and can be sent with light, sound or by tapping. At night, a flashing light is visible from far further away than a voice carries.
How to flash SOS with your screen
- Open CEMP Life and tap SOS Strobe.
- Tap Start SOS Strobe. The screen flashes the international SOS pattern.
- Point the screen toward rescuers, a passing vehicle, a helicopter or a boat.
- Keep the phone charged and turn brightness up; conserve battery between bursts if help may be far off.
SOS Strobe runs entirely on the device, so it works with no signal, which is exactly when you are most likely to need it.

What is the emergency number in every country?
There is no single global number. Common ones include 112 across the European Union and many other countries, 911 in the United States and Canada, 999 in the United Kingdom (112 also works), 000 in Australia and 119 or 110 in parts of Asia. Some countries use separate numbers for police, fire and ambulance.
Rather than memorising a list, open Emergency Numbers in CEMP Life, search the country by name or number, and tap to dial the official service.
Tips for travellers and hikers
- Check the local emergency number when you land, before you need it
- Share your route and return time with someone at home
- Carry a power bank; an emergency drains a battery fast
- On mobile phones, emergency calls can often connect through any available network
- Learn the SOS pattern now; it takes ten seconds
Automatic alerts after a crash or fall
If you cannot reach your phone, Crash Safety can act for you. With monitoring on, it detects freefall and impact, waits for 3 seconds of stillness, then starts a 10-second countdown; if you do not cancel, it texts your GPS coordinates to your emergency contact and calls them. It is an experimental foreground feature and an extra layer, not a replacement for emergency services. Full details in the best crash detection app for Android.
